Welcome to your Norton Elementary & Middle School PTA on the web!

Welcome Back!
Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year at NEMS.  We would like to give an extra special welcome to the new students and teachers at NEMS this school year.  We hope that this school year brings everyone new and exciting things.  Everyone is invited to participate in all future PTA activities.  The PTA couldn't accomplish what they do without you!

Field Day
The end of the year field day was a huge success.  We would like to thank everyone that helped in making it possible.  If anyone has any pictures they would like to share, you can send them to pta@nortoncityschools.org or send a copy in to any PTA officer and we will post them on our Facebook page. If you are not a friend of NEMS PTA on Facebook, you are invited to add us.  The email is pta@nortoncityschools.org.  This a way for us to keep you up to date on current PTA events and a way that you can give us your opinions and suggestions.

Boxtops 4 Education
We hope everyone has remembered to collect those box tops over the summer break.  Contest time has begun again.  The box tops 4 education contest will begin now and end October 24, 2011.  Click here to download a collection sheet to fill.  Once you have completely filled the sheet, please send it in to your child's homeroom.  There will be additional sheets available in the office if needed.  The classroom with the most box tops will win a party.  The student with the most filled sheets turned in will win a prize.  Register at the following websites to earn bonus box tops for the school:  http://www.boxtops4education.com/ and www.softcoin.com/Sites/General_Mills_Ingles and register your Ingles Advantage card for Norton Elementary & Middle School.

NEMS PTA on Facebook!
We now have a Facebook page to help keep you updated on upcoming events and meetings.  This is also a way you can give us your opinions and suggestions.  You can add us as a friend:  Our email is pta@nortoncityschools.org.

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
Our annual membership drive has begun and will continue through November 11, 2011.  Please help support the NEMS PTA by joining.  Just send in the $5.00 dues per person along with the completed form to your child's homeroom.
A portion of these dues goes to VA PTA.  Support your children by supporting the PTA.  This year we are doing it differently; each classroom with 100% membership will be rewarded with a party.  For example if a classroom has 18 students and also has 18 members to join... that classroom has 100% membership and will win a party.  It's that simple!  So, ask everyone you know.  Any adult can join PTA:  parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles, friends of the family, etc...

The number one priority for parents is their children's well-being.  More than 30 years' worth of research has proven that children do better when their parents are involved both at home and at school  Grades and test scores climb.  Self-esteem grows.  Schools improve.

PTA helps parents, students, school staff, and communities work together to share ideas about programs and activities that benefit children.  Our PTA provides information and resources that strengthen the connections between children, parents, schools and the community.
